The restaurant is located in Mels about 10km away from the Spa resort Bad Ragaz. The surroundings are beautiful. On our visit we tried the Schlüsselstube which is the Bistro of the restaurant. The decor is classic with a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The menu is features a limited choice of mains and include pizza. Dishes are prepared simply, unpretentiously and are well presented.

A starter of geen leaf salad was fresh and crispy. Home-made frensh dressing was served individually. Pottery Villroy-Boch.

I opted for breaded pork steak. This was juicy, tender and not oily. The side vegetables were crunchy, the caramellised shallot was particularly pleasent. Home made tagliatelle had good egg flavour.

Mari’s dish were satisfying veal and beef mini hamburgers on a riesling cream sauce accompanied by home made potato puree. Nicely presented.

We had a glass of Rathauskeller Riesling-Sylvaner 2008 by Weinbaugenossenschaft Mels. Fresh nose with tropical and muscat character.

A nice bistro, worth a visit for a relaxed lunch. Next visit will be to the restaurant’s Nidbergstube (the gourmet room) to try the top class cuisine of Chef Seppi Kalberer
